Gallery Upgrade

Friday, March 2nd, 2007

Since I appear to be in the mood to putz around with my web presence, I figured it was high time for an upgrade to my picture gallery.

I’m considering getting a DSLR camera in the somewhat-near-future, so there may be higher quality pics in the future.

I also have a graphics tablet, which I’ll hopefully become skillful enough with that I’ll put some compositions online.

Guess we’ll see :)

Ugh - Stupid ‘Upgrades’

Tuesday, June 6th, 2006

Why do upgrades to software routinely have to break things that worked fine previously?

WordPress may be the blogging software that I use and like, but its upgrades can be painful :-P

This one has broken, somehow, comment editing (which is really only a problem for me, but…). Wonder what other surprises I’ll find.

Some Changes…

Saturday, May 21st, 2005

I’m sure that you’ve noticed a drastic site layout change.

Woot!

The default theme, right now, is a modified version of the default WordPress 1.5 theme (which is based on the Kubrik theme). There are some things I really dislike about the default theme, including the fact that it’s fixed size, that it uses images and that the heading area is freak’n huge!

So, I’ve modified it and this is the first new style. I like how it looks, so it’s good that it’s the default for now. There are some things that I would like to improve, because I think it’s marginally difficult to read right now. That is not a good thing.

iTunes

Sunday, March 6th, 2005

Added a little tiny thing to show what I’m playing in iTunes. Terribly exciting, I know.

Yes, the entry for Halifax is still coming. Been a long week and I’ve been out of the writing mood.

Engine Upgrade

Wednesday, February 16th, 2005

Bear with me as I upgrade from WordPress 1.2 to 1.5.

I’ve customized quite a number of little bits and pieces, so some things might not work quite as expected at first.

One definite thing you’ll notice is that the first time you leave a comment (after this upgrade), it won’t appear until I approve it. After that, they should automatically appear.

Unfortunately, I don’t think it will take long for the comment spammers to catch on to this and load the comments section to find a previously accepted commenter.

Guess time will tell.

[Edit]
Looks like most things are working as they should now, including some improvements I’ve made to my, erm, previous tweaks for 1.2.

My biggest challenge will probably be figuring out how to hide categories again. Actually, maybe there’s a better way. Whatever. It’s time to sleep.

New Layout

Tuesday, February 15th, 2005

There’s a new layout for the site. This time it really is different than the others. Pick "Spiffy new" from the Layout menu at the top of the page and then click the Set button (you can always pick a different one if you don’t like it).

I’m still tweaking and playing and what-not, so if there is something you really like - or really don’t - lemme know in the comments. I also haven’t tested it with Internet Explorer yet, but I will tomorrow. I don’t know if I’m going to put any effort into fixing it for IE 5/5.5 (if it’s broken) and it probably works in IE 6, but we shall see.

Holiday Theme

Tuesday, November 23rd, 2004

Ok, I’m screwing around with a holiday theme for Christmas. Checkout the Xmas layout (use the form in the upper right).

Layout-wise it’s the same as the Soft Blue theme, but I started playing with colors and such to get a general color scheme going.

I’m still pondering alternate layouts that actually change the way the information is delivered. Haven’t come up with anything useful yet.

CSS Fun

Thursday, November 18th, 2004

Depending on one’s definition of fun, anyway.

In the upper right corner there is now a form labeled "select layout" from which can be used to switch between various style sheets that I create for the site.

There are currently three, all quite similar. Two are almost identical except for the color scheme and the "Original" is basically the same but without some of the refinements to the actual structure/layout of the page.

*shrug* I realize that no one cares, but I find that choice is a good thing.

Some Changes

Monday, November 8th, 2004

I’ve tweaked the menu design slightly, if you hate it let me know. I’m not sure how I feel about it yet, but I thought the other layout felt a little bland.

More Hidden Categories

Friday, October 29th, 2004

So I updated to WordPress 1.2.1 as I mentioned earlier.

In doing so, I cleaned up a lot of the modifications I’ve made to the default WordPress installation (namely the Weather Box thing and the Neverwinter Nights server status). Basically I turned them into plugins so as to make it easier to upgrade to future WordPress versions.

In the spirit of cleaning up, I decided to fix the hidden categories hack. It’s still a bit of a hack, but it’s a lot cleaner in all regards. There is still some silliness (like with the calendar), but now hidden categories are much more integrated.

Ok, I guess it’s time to go to bed. After all, work tomorrow and picking up my brother at the airport.
