After One Week

Saturday, August 26th, 2006

So here are a series of flights from today, one week after the original flight video.

Flight 02
Flight 03
Flight 04
Flight 05

I can only do tail-in hovering/flight right now. I’ll make more available as my skills increase ;) Side- and nose- in orientations will probably mean the training gear go back on while I learn those near the ground.

By the way, there’s a couple points where the heli seems to be jerking around a lot (side-to-side) - those instances were me adjusting the trim settings, which (unfortunately) tends to mean that I have to let go of one of the controls. At the least it means that it’s not as easy to adjust the controls, so it gets a little wobbly ;)

More Video to Come

Tuesday, August 22nd, 2006

There should be more video coming in the next day or so - I’m a lot better than the Flight 01 video :)

The confined space does put limits on what I can do, but I also feel that it’s forcing me to improve my control quickly.

[Edit]
I swear, the lack of video is not my fault. My videographer keeps going to sleep :-P

Captured Test Flight

Saturday, August 19th, 2006

The best flights off this battery charge actually weren’t recorded, but this isn’t bad. At least by my current standards :)

Flight 01

[Edit]
Strangely, it wasn’t kicking the doormat up. That was the turbulence bit that I figured would easily show. But noooooo, it had to lie complacently on the floor this time. Ah well, some other time will show it I’m sure :)

[Edit 2]
No, I don’t know why the video isn’t downloading properly. Videos in the past have worked fine, but it seems like it’s not working for this one at this time. I’m working on it.

[Edit 3]
Ok - this looks like another episode of wireless bandwidth sucking at various times for some things. It actually seems to work fine from outside my network. When it’s being served from my network back to me (e.g. during testing), it takes a looot longer. Stupid thing. Anyway, if it seems to take a bit of time just give it some.

[Edit 4]
Yes, those outriders are “training gear” and will go away in time :)

[Edit 5]
Ok, I’ve changed the format of the movie to try and help the download. I don’t know why it’s being such a problem. I can connect to my work machine and download it fine, so I know it isn’t the server’s ability to upload or my ocnnection. Now you should see the loading progress, however.

[Edit 6!!]
Ok, I’ve moved the movie file to a different server. Now if there are problems, they aren’t with my stuff! ;)

Air CJB Opens

Saturday, August 19th, 2006

Heh, ok. Well closer anyway ;)

And, to respond to a comment, pictures?! MOVIES!

I’ll be taking some movies later today to put up. I’ve gotten much better and gotten the helo trimmed out to make control a lot easier. I’ve been flying multiple flights every day and it’s getting easier.

It’s a little squirrely near the ground (which is where I’ve been flying it so far… baby steps) due to the turbulence it kicks up. The video will illustrate - both the squirreliness and the turbulence.

Successful Flights

Thursday, August 17th, 2006

Well, maybe not flights. Non-crashing-events? In any case, success!

I realize some of you might be going “WTF is he talking about?”. Well, I purchased an R/C helicopter (the Honeybee FP [forgive the website, it’s technically “in English” but…] purchased through BP Hobbies) last Friday and it arrived yesterday. I have a lot of learning to go, but I’m progressing well (at least so far as I can tell in 4 flights).

I think my “initial learning” for quite awhile via X-Plane has been very beneficial. I understand the principals and have actually simulated their use :) Hopefully that translates into fewer outright crashes while I learn ;)
