Happy Memorial Day

Monday, May 31st, 2004

Though I don’t know if "happy" is the right modifier. I doubt merry is it.

Anyone got any suggestions?

Hahah!

So you may have noticed that I’ve got WWII Online in my links. You might deduce from its presence that I am a fan, if not an active participant.

Indeed, I am an active participant. I almost exclusively play in the French Army, sometimes also in the French Air Force and Navy. Don’t ask why French and not British (or German for that matter). I started playing in the French quadrant and like it there.

Anywho, I just started taking AFVs out for a spin. I found that I’m probably not worse than most of those that I’ve gone up against and might actually be better.

This screenshot is a recent sortie I was out on in a Panhard, which is an armored car. For those who don’t know what an armored car is, you can think of it sort of like a more heavily armed Humvee (and if you don’t know what a Humvee is, they are the military vehicles that the Hummer and H2 SUVs [if you can call them SUVs] are based upon).

To relate it to its opponents, the PzKpfw IV D is a full-blown tank, PaK (any variety) are anti-tank guns, Flak are (as the name implies) anti-aircraft guns. Sappers and SMGs are infantry units.

You’ll notice a number of damages that aren’t listed as kills. What will often occur is that a mortally wounded unit will "despawn", especially if close to one of its bases. They may not be counted as dead, but the effect is often similar.

Anyway, the hahah of the post is definitely the two PzKpfw IV Ds (Panzerkampfwagen is the German word for tank) that I killed. They heavily outclass my vehicle (the Panhard — yeah the site is Russian, but it’s for the picture) and I basically killed two of them.

It gets better though. My driver was killed moments after arriving on station, so I was a sitting duck. I was on station for a good 15 minutes (the drive out was long). It took them 15 minutes to kill a totally immobile armored car. Hahahahah :)

Wooo

Four day weekend starts tomorrow promptly when I get home from work.

I’ll drink a nice loooong toast to all you who will be doing something less fun on Friday :)

Cool Storms

Wednesday, May 26th, 2004

Cool set of storms last night. Lightning, thunder — err, but no rain. There was a funnel cloud up a few hundred feet or so. I didn’t see it of course, but it was on the news.

No, not a tornado, a funnel cloud up a few hundred feet. When they are up there, it’s a “Well, crap, if that thing decides to come to earth we’ll have a tornado.” scenario.

K was over for a bit for dinner and just hanging out. We ended up getting some pizza delivered, so nothing fancy or special.

HA! Nice

Meet Tyson, the Skateboarding Bulldog!

That’s great. Maybe I should make Tyson my mascot, heh.

Ah Hell…

Slashdot | What’s Your Terrorism Quotient?

Ugh. That is terrible. Those that posted comparing what’s going on to the Red Scare and McCarthyism are dead on, in my opinion.

This is ridiculous.

Slight Reprieve

Thursday, May 20th, 2004

The weather’s been nice and rainy here, though today it was mostly just very cloudy. I guess tomorrow the storms are supposed to move back in. The weather prediction here does kind of suck, though, so maybe it won’t come to pass.

Can’t say I’m disappointed (if it turns out to be accurate) though, I like storms. So long as it doesn’t knock out any of my toys, it’s all good :)

DOH!

Tuesday, May 18th, 2004

Well, I know thousands of people read this site and its many archives, so a mistake of this magnitude must just be shocking.

Sorry that I broke access to the archives ;) It’s fixed now though, so you can all breath easily.

Mornings Suck

Tuesday, May 18th, 2004

At least they usually do. Bah.

Ahh…. Storms

Monday, May 17th, 2004

First post from outside, I think. Sitting on my balcony watching a storm roll in. Or maybe by… hard to tell. Humidity has dropped way off, which is nice.

Well, here comes the rain… If it isn’t too windy I can keep sitting out here.

I’d take a picture and post it, except that I don’t have a digital camera to do so with. I actually live in a fairly nicely kept complex, so it’s rather picturesque right now.

[UPDATE: Nope, lots of rain. Wow.]
