Been a Bit

Monday, March 29th, 2004

Well, so it’s been a few days. Of course, that could be because my brother and two friends came up (err, down) to visit over the weekend. Left me a little too busy to write.

Played some Dungeons & Dragons, went to the mall (the Springfield mall if you must know) and ate Chinese.

Picked up Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow, too (beware, flash [with sound] and slow-ish). Sweet game with multiplayer. Looking forward to trying that out as soon as I get a little better at it.

Woot

Friday, March 26th, 2004

So now that my friends are en-route and won’t be able to see this prior to getting here, I can finally post this hysterical item I found (via the X-Plane mailing list).

The 213 Things Skippy is No Longer Allowed to Do in the U.S. Army. Dear God this is hysterical. Read it and then, after picking yourself up off the floor, praise Skippy. ;)

Whoa

Friday, March 26th, 2004

Other than being Neo’s signature phrase, Whoa is a pretty good description of this week.

It’s already Friday! Which is good, mind you, but it did sort of just pop up there.

I did go to FOSE on Wednesday. It was perhaps less interesting than I was hoping for, but it did get me out of the office for about half of the day. Read the full article for more on FOSE.

Two of my friends from back home and my brother are coming in for the weekend today. That’s a good thing :) Wish I could call in sick…
(more…)

Well…

Tuesday, March 23rd, 2004

Well, I don’t exactly have a whole ton (nor even a pound) of interesting tidbits today. FOSE is this week and I’ve got a pass, so I’ll probably be there (likely tomorrow, too).

Picked up an X-Box Magazine yesterday (I would give its URL, but I can’t recall which I picked up) that had a preview of the upcoming "Next MechAssault" (doesn’t have a name yet). I admit, I’m excited. Won’t be out for a while yet, much like Halo 2 won’t be out for a while yet, but I imagine that I’ll have to get ‘em both when they are.

If I come up with something that actually is interesting, I’ll make sure to pass it along.

Mt. Vernon

Sunday, March 21st, 2004

Well, the weather was absolutely spectacular yesterday and a perfect opportunity to go to Mt. Vernon.

K and I headed over about noon (it’s probably a ten minute drive from my apartment) and walked around the grounds for a few hours. We didn’t go on the mansion tour because, well, the line was freak’n long.

The view of the Potomac from the grounds is spectacular and even though Mt. Vernon is no longer the size that it was, it’s still big.

There’s a bust of George Washington in this small museum there. It’s set at real-life level, which is somewhat strange when you stand next to it, because he just seems like he should be bigger. Must be one of those “larger than life” type things.

Probably about 3:30 we’d walked over pretty much the whole grounds and decided to leave. One the way out we stopped and ate at the Mount Vernon Inn, which is right in front of the estate. Good food, but don’t go expecting 30 different choices.

Oh yes…

Wednesday, March 17th, 2004

Ehem.. uh… Happy St. Patrick’s Day. It’s still the 17th so you can all shut the hell up :) .

I was wearing a green sweater, but I assure you, it was entirely by accident.

Well isn’t that Special

TDY Gallery Page 12 - Renaissance Faire

Ok, that’s just spectacular. Kudos to my sister, who pointed it out to me.

I’d love to say more, but unfortunately I’m tired and didn’t do anything particularly interesting. Hell, I can’t even make up something interesting right now.

You, in the corner, make up something interesting for me to put here. Snap to it!

Warm Glow of a CRT

Tuesday, March 16th, 2004

Well, UPS and Amazon.com came through for me and I got my anime today. Woo! I’m rationing myself, though, and I only watched 2 of the 4 episodes.

I know myself too well and I’m likely to buy more if I’m not careful.

I’ve got friends who don’t think much of Neon Genesis Evangelion, but I personally think it’s some of the better anime out there. Never fear, I’m not launching in to my reasons why.

Heheh, 2 days late but still funny

WIL WHEATON DOT NET: i shit a piece of π

Ok, maybe it’s just me, but that’s a priceless conversation. And I fully admit to being totally oblivious 2 days ago to the sheer gravity of the date.

For those unaware, Wil Wheaton’s an actor (Stand By Me and Star Trek: The Next Generation likely being his best known), a blogger (as I’m sure you could guess) and an author.

Ranting

Monday, March 15th, 2004

To paraphrase something I heard today "Life for the sake of life is worthless". We’re all pretty stupid (people that is) in that this is the "pinnacle" of society that we’ve created. For all our vaunted humanity (which is supposedly what makes us not animals), our greatest achievements are in building things.

Take this computer. It’s a wonderful and marvelous thing, to be sure, but its potential to tie people more closely together, to ease the exploration of humanity, to understand ourselves and each other…. these things are barely touched while we are bombarded with advertising. It’s stupid. In so many ways we’ve not used our ability to build tools, to create, to invent, etc. to improve humanity — to actually make the lives of people better. Instead we use those skills to give ourselves an illusion of happiness (in too many cases).

Perhaps I’m a tad pessimistic.
